The District Steak & Seafood: Pensacola’s Classic Steakhouse
The District Steakhouse rocks a modern vibe in a historic structure in the heart of Pensacola’s vibrant entertainment district. The building itself is steeped in Pensacola history, having been built in 1888 on property that had been the site of the Spanish Presidio and the British Fort Pensacola. The building has seen many tenants, owners, and businesses over the years, culminating in its recent rebirth as The District: Seville Steak & Seafood, bringing a contemporary American steakhouse to an Old World setting. The sophisticated surroundings and upscale ambiance provide a relaxing, inviting dining experience for locals and visitors alike.

The culinary team that makes the magic happen is led by Executive Chef Josh Warner, who brings over two decades of kitchen experience to The District. A Culinary Arts graduate of the Art Institute of Atlanta, Warner worked under a number of renowned chefs, culminating in a stint at Rays on the River in Atlanta, before finding his way to Pensacola. His mission at The District is to tie the Seville brand into Downtown Pensacola’s booming resurgence. Warner describes his style as comfortably eclectic and is accomplished in creating impressive steak and seafood dishes.
Sous Chef Kyle Kennedy and Pastry Chef Eden Galloway round out the culinary team and General Manager Lisa Benson keeps it all functioning smoothly. “The District: Seville Steak & Seafood is committed to providing our guests with a unique culinary experience served with warmth, friendliness, professionalism, and above all, pride in our product,” Benson states. “We are more than just a steakhouse; we strive to turn the experience here into special memories for our guests.” The restaurant proudly serves Certified Angus Beef, in-house dry-aged beef, and the finest seafood available on the Gulf Coast, and has a cocktail and wine list that reflects the same level of discernment and quality.

The District is open Tuesday through Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday until 10:00 p.m. The upstairs cocktail lounge opens Tuesday through Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The cocktail lounge menu makes for fun reading as well as delicious sipping, with such enticing names as The Garden, the Barrel Pick Old Fashioned, the Aloe Vera Margarita, and the Barrancas Bramble. Menu highlights include such appealing appetizers as the District Crab Cake, Crispy Rhode Island Calamari, Pan Seared Sea Scallops, and Lamb Lollichops, as well as a classic shrimp cocktail served with ‘Atomic’ cocktail sauce, and a shareable cheese and charcuterie board. The District Onion Soup is a classic favorite, as is the Maine Lobster Bisque. Salad selections include the District Caesar and the District Wedge, plus a Greek Salad, a Caprese, and a salad of red and gold roasted beets served with goat cheese fritters.

Desserts are by no means an afterthought at The District. The Maker’s Mark Bread Pudding is a staple, and the District Dome is another top pick, with its chocolate cheesecake base, then fresh raspberries and whipped cream topped with a chocolate dome and raspberry melting syrup, with the dramatic presentation underscoring the delicious result. Chef Eden’s seasonal Creme Brulee is a perennial favorite as well.
The District has been the recipient of a number of significant industry awards, both local and beyond, including Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence, Diners’ Choice Award 2020, Florida Trend’s Golden Spoon Award, and Best in Pensacola from VIP Pensacola Magazine.
