Outdoor Kitchen Creates An Endless Summer Lifestyle
This outdoor kitchen designed by Bay Breeze Patio in Destin, FL boasts an open floorplan that accommodates up to 60 people.
Bay Breeze Patio’s Susan Kiley and Wayne Paul know a thing or two about curating outdoor kitchens that add value to a well-appointed home. Extending indoor amenities and luxury to outdoor living areas not only increases the usable amount of square footage but increases the overall value of the home. “During the last five years, outdoor living areas have become the second most value-adding home addition,” remarks Wayne. Susan continues, “We built our outdoor kitchen seven years ago. It is half the size of our home – we spend a tremendous amount of time out there.”
The outdoor kitchen boasts an open floorplan without the visual obstruction of vertical support beams. Destin Flooring installed the tile floor throughout the 1,300 square foot space using an attractive and custom layout that adds a visual dimension to the room. The outdoor kitchen accommodates a stand-up crowd of roughly 60 people or a formal sit-down gathering of 20. We store glassware, plates, and silverware outside in the outdoor cabinetry to eliminate the need to run back and forth into the house during events.
Susan and Wayne opted to use two different brands of cabinetry – Brown Jordan and Fire Magic – both installed by Mike Spicer Design. The cabinetry is stainless steel with brown accents to coordinate with the brown and black swirl-pattern granite countertops installed by Classic Design out of Miramar Beach.
Kitchen Layout
Comfort and functionality inspired the design process. “We knew we did not want small spaces or wasted space. We laid out the appliances in one long run with a lot of workspace between them,” says Susan. The walls behind the grill are fireproof aluminum. There is a large Fire Magic Gas Grill, a Big Green Egg, and a Memphis Pellet Grill to accommodate all kinds of menus and cooking styles. Under the counters there are three True under-counter refrigerators, an ice machine, and a dishwasher. “We also added a powder room to eliminate traffic into of the house.”
Seating for 20
Susan states, “We wanted our outdoor space to be as functional as possible. We host a lot of events, so we also need a lot of seating.” The outdoor kitchen has four distinct seating areas. In the main dining area are two Jensen Leisure IPE 11′ extension dining tables with a total of 18 Lane Venture upholstered dining chairs with six counter height padded sling swivels from Tropitone surround the curved bar. Six Tropitone UR Comfort Swivel Rocking Cushioned Chairs are seated around the chat table, which is located in front of an outdoor-rated propane vent free fireplace. “This tends to be everyone’s favorite place to sit because of the comfort, fire, and giant 65’ television,” says Susan. There is also a more intimate sitting area with an outdoor wicker sectional from Lane Venture that seats eight.
As a designer of high-end outdoor living spaces as well as Destin’s preferred choice for outdoor furniture, grills, and accessories, Bay Breeze Patio is proud to assist customers with projects of all sizes. “We strive to be practical and utilize every inch of space to size each kitchen properly, and we select products that can withstand the coastal elements,” states Susan. The endless summer coastal lifestyle inspires homeowners to create an outdoor oasis reflective of their personalities, style, and tastes. Susan concludes, “Everyone loves to gather around an outdoor space, and it is our job to make it the best it can be.”
