Packing Healthy Snacks for the Beach
The Backyard Bohemian’s Mediterranean Caprese Tortellini Salad is the perfect dish to keep you feeling satisfied while beachside.
There are a million reasons to love the beaches along the Gulf Coast: the feel of sugar sand between your toes, the salty aroma of the sea breeze, the unique wildlife you will undoubtedly encounter, and snacking while catching some rays are just a few. Of course, after settling into your spot on the beach, hunger will inevitably strike. Sunscreen, a beach towel, a page-turner book, and a few thought out and prepared snacks will make your beach day a memorable and enjoyable time.
Healthy snacks are easy to pack, depending on the type of beach trip you have planned. Romantic walks on the beach call for different flavors than a beach day with your friends. While friendly outings may call for a bright and fruity selection, a dreamy stroll with your partner will include deeper, more intimate flavors.
Snack cravings vary depending on the time of day you head to the coast. A charcuterie board with meats will probably not be on your morning menu, although a fruit salad sounds enticing. Planning a variety of snacks to last throughout your beach trip is the key to keeping it healthy and delicious!
Morning trips to the beach guarantee a full trove of perfect seashells and plenty of sunshine. Keep it healthy by eating and hydrating at the same time! Fruit cups made from seasonal produce like blueberries, kiwis, strawberries, pineapple, and mango with a pinch of coconut flakes will not only please your taste buds and help with hydration but will keep you feeling satisfied.
Skip the chips! Lunch tends to be a little heartier than breakfast since we have had time to wake up and move around a bit. Handhelds like sandwiches, roll-ups, or shish kabobs are a perfect opportunity to incorporate nutrient-dense produce. Vegetables including spinach, radishes, artichokes, tomatoes, and onion can really add a satisfying crunch to your lunch!
Staying hydrated while on the beach sounds simple; however, it is easy for the day to get away from you. Quench your thirst from all the splashing and sandcastle building with naturally infused water. Adding a few slices of cucumber, a wedge of lemon or a sprig of mint instantly turns boring water into a spa experience for your mind, body, and soul. This combination will surely encourage you to hydrate throughout the day!
Last but certainly not least, there is always time for romance on the beach. Eating is an age-old way of showing and spreading love. Romantic and deep flavors like raspberries, strawberries, chocolates, chili, and pasta are a few options that help set the tone. For a healthy dish that will please all the senses, try a classic shrimp cocktail on ice! It is a perfect low-maintenance meal that is fun to eat and easy to dispose of properly.
My favorite dish to bring for a beach snack is my Mediterranean Caprese Tortellini Salad. With fresh, juicy, summer ripe tomatoes, mozzarella pearls, garden picked basil, garlic, tortellini, and a generous drizzle of olive oil you have yourself a healthy, flavorful, festive dish to share!
Whether you are visiting the beach for some sun, a little clarity, or to catch up with old friends, make sure you indulge in all your favorite healthy snacks. There is no better time to enjoy a bite to eat while taking in some of the most gorgeous scenery America has to offer!
