Flora-Bama Yacht Club
The Flora Bama Yacht Club shares a name and an attitude with its across-the-highway neighbor, with its Ole River frontage, beach bar décor, and laid-back indoor/outdoor ambiance. Walls and tables sport autographs and dollar bills are stapled to ceilings. An outdoor stage is frequently the setting for live music, and there is covered space for outdoor dining.
The food makes FBYC a repeat destination. The menu goes far beyond standard seafood house fare, and the array of awards behind the hostess station attest to the overall quality. Starters include any number of oyster preparations, crab claws, calamari, shrimp and the special house-smoked tuna dip. Menu items focus on fresh local seafood, and feature a Gulf catch of the day after 4:00 pm, but also include hand-cut filet mignon and ribeye steaks.
Chef Matt Niau is excited about spring and summer menu additions, including dishes reflecting his Hawaiian heritage, such as smoked-on-site kalua pig, stuffed pork chops, and a new shrimp salad. The Hook n’ Cook program allows lucky anglers to arrange for FBYC chefs to prepare their catch for friends and family, Greek-style, Cajun-style, or fried.
