Capt. Anderson’s: America’s Favorite Seafood Restaurant
Capt. Anderson’s Restaurant, a Panama City Beach Landmark since 1958, is undoubtedly one of Florida’s finest seafood restaurants. Capt. Anderson’s is located dockside on historic Grand Lagoon, with a panoramic view of the fishing and sightseeing boats coming and going. Fishermen are always proud to show off their catch of the day…only a few feet away. It is a local tradition for diners to plan their visits to Capt. Anderson’s a little early so they have time to stroll down the docks and watch the fleets unload. Their slogan for the past 50 years or more has been ‘Dine Early and Watch the Fleet Unload!’
Capt. Anderson’s has innovated many of the Gulf Coast’s classic dishes and has won the loyalty of millions of customers and friends, making it one of America’s Top 50, they were also voted America’s Best Seafood Restaurant, Top 5 Best Local Restaurants in Florida and Florida’s #1 Most Legendary Restaurant by Southern Living Magazine, Capt. Anderson’s is also famous for its wine cellar, which is one of the best in the world! Capt. Anderson’s is also the winner of the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence, a highly respected member of the Florida Trend Restaurant Hall of Fame, and has been named Best Seafood Restaurant by the Travel Channel.
While Capt. Anderson’s is most famous for seafood, they do not forget the landlubbers…or those seeking variety; Capt. Anderson’s offers delicious Charcoal Broiled Red Snapper, Grouper, and Steaks, Fried Crab Fingers, Grilled Bay Shrimp, Homemade Bread, Desserts, and the very famous Greek Salad.
Capt. Anderson’s is beautiful…decorated with an original nautical motif…which contributes to the very relaxed, casual, and welcoming atmosphere – as most visitors would say, “The Best Anywhere.”
Capt. Anderson’s restaurant is one of those rare “family” restaurants that not only survive but strengthen and improve through the years. The landmark waterfront restaurant has witnessed remarkable growth without loss of quality… growing to 725 seats, six nights a week, and serving over 250,000 guests during its 11-month season. Year-round, the Patronis family works with fishermen and others who make their living harvesting the Gulf and Bay waters to protect the fragile coastal ecology. Preserving and replenishing the rich natural bounty of the Gulf Coast is part of the Capt. Anderson’s legacy, one of the most important reasons this landmark restaurant is known for serving more fresh local seafood than any other restaurant in Florida.
For nearly five decades, founders Jimmy and Johnny Patronis pulled alternating shifts virtually every day. One brother working the “day” shift, the other brother working the “night” shift — flipping shifts the next day. Over the years, the younger Patronis generation has stepped in to serve their share, and it is clear they are proud to continue the Patronis tradition of family… serving families. Their example of hard work and consistency is reflected in the 177-member staff, with the average length of employment exceeding 25 years!
Nothing complements a fine meal at Captain Anderson’s better than fine wine or fine imported beers… capped off with free souvenir glasses!
